This is Angie Quick’s second solo exhibition with the gallery. Painted over the past 6 months, her seductive new paintings explore notions of happiness and joy, love, both discovered and lost and the human form in all of its beauty and vulnerabilities.
Played to the tune of Bryan Ferry’s cover of “Smoke Gets In Your Eyes”, each painting is titled after a line from the classic love song. This was a song that Quick heard throughout her childhood. Now older with more experience to understand the lyrics, her paintings evoke similar romantic melodies. Enmeshed figures tumble and cavort all set within luxurious spaces within a riot of imagery. Revealed or concealed, suggested and expressed, each sumptuous painting is a feast for the eyes, a love story for the ages.
