Public Art Unveiling
1/26/2013 - 1/26/2013

Canada House Gallery is thrilled to announce the installation of a new public art work by Sheila Kernan! "When I Close My Eyes" is the manifestation of Sheila Kernan’s childhood memories of hiking Johnstons Canyon. Reproduced to 24 x 30 feet, this image is of water cascading over granite, cutting and winding its way through deep gorges; a fantastic reminder to all to enjoy the unparalleled natural beauty around us. http://www.banff.ca/index.aspx?NID=845 to link to the Town of Banff website for more information. Join Sheila Kernan at the Bear Street Mall parking lot in Banff this Saturday at NOON for the official unveiling. A reception with Sheila Kernan follows at Canada House Gallery immediately afterward until 3 pm.

Sheila Kernan - Memories & Impressions
6/6/2013 - 6/19/2013

Canada House Gallery is proud to host their second exhibition for Sheila Kernan. A former gallerina at Canada House Gallery, Sheila left the gallery eleven years ago to attend ACAD and earn her BFA. When she left the gallery, Kernan aspired to have her work hanging on the walls of Canada House Gallery one day in the future. This dynamic and talented painter pushes her method and techniques to the limits. Her unique use of stencils, texture, glitter and airbrush allows her work to stand out across the country. Kernan firmly believes that her foundation of working at the gallery contributed to her success – she now shows in leading galleries in Banff, Calgary, Regina, Winnipeg and Toronto. Always experimenting and looking for inspiration, this young artist's vision of the mountain, prairie and urban landscapes around her vibrate with energy. Artist reception, Saturday June 8, 1-3 pm

Still & Longing - Laura Harris
4/18/2013 - 5/2/2013

Laura Harris is well known across Canada as a powerful, energetic and vivacious painter. Intense. Vibrant. Honest. Beautifully imperfect. Harris' style is aggressively physical… her involvement is tangible, palpable. Her process is wildly unique… her imagery intoxicating. Join us for an unforgettable artist demonstration and fascinating talk with the artist. Painting demonstration at 2 pm. Exhibition runs until April 30.

West to East - Glenn Payan
4/4/2013 - 4/16/2013

Stylized, sweeping forms grace the canvas from this talented West Coast artist. Payan’s whimsical style combined with his refined technique create a visually stunning body of work. Having spent much time in the mountains climbing and hiking, Payan has an intimate knowledge of the strata and drama of the Rockies. His west coast scenes show confidence and appreciation for the vistas. His work is both endearing and captivating. Artist reception, Saturday, April 6, 1 – 3 pm

New Work & The Boy Who Paints - Richard Cole
2/21/2013 - 3/7/2013

Launching his first illustrated book, The Boy Who Paints, Cole will be available to discuss the creation of his book and the concepts within. Cole is a graduate of the Alberta College of Art and Design. Artist reception & book signing, Saturday, Feb 23, 1 – 3 pm

Horizons - Dominik Modlinski
5/2/2013 - 5/15/2013

For over 4 weeks, I have been preparing my motorcycle for my upcoming expedition to Baja and mainland Mexico. During my 5 week journey, starting on Feb 15, 2013, I will be sketching on location to capture in my drawings the beauty and unique culture of Mexico. In order to undertake such journey I had to slightly modify my BMW R1150 Rockster by installing touring handlebar and rerouting all the cables and lines. The factory plastic BMW luggage was replaced by Touratech aluminum cases and rear GIVI top box to be able carry all necessary gear for such a long journey. I also installed engine guards and GPS handlebar unit. It is not much different from back packing or kayaking in terms of packing the gear. It has to be selective, limited choice of most necessary items. The weather and landscape will change gradually as I will be driving from Nanaimo to LA and on to Mexico. I am excited to capture ever-changing scenery in my work as I ride camp and hike on my way to Cabos and then on to Copper Canyon, Mexico. This exhibition features 12 large oil on canvas works, a series of conté sketches from my travels, plus a series of en plein air from my various extreme travels. Please come see me, my paintings and my motorbike at the gallery on Saturday May 4!
