![]() Jane Ash Poitras: Transitions 12/4/2010 - 12/31/2010 New paintings by this remarkable artist whose mixed media works are currently the subject of a major exhibition at the Royal Ontario Museum. Ranging from small to larger scale, these paintings on panel and canvas continue to explore the themes of history, culture and ecology and their impact on humanity. These exquisite works not only provide dramatic evidence of her mastery of traditional artistic techniques, but showcase innovative new techniques she has developed over her long and successful career. Most of all, however, these works and their themes display the broad and diverse range of her experience, studies and knowledge fired by her intense intellectual curiosity. "Each blank panel or canvas is an invitation to a journey of discovery. I may begin with an idea of what the final destination—the completed painting—may be, but I’m always open to the unexpected. As Carl Beam said, the art of placement is a spiritual act. Each step in the creative process may reveal unexpected choices that require decisions." - Jane Ash Poitras |
